“In a humid environment full of scented vapours, the sound of voices mingles with laughs together with the sound of flowing water and with the dull sound of metal buckets against marble benches.

A practice of distant origin that has charmed thousands of people of different cultures the hammam, better known as Turkish bath, comes from the Middle East but is rooted in the ancient Greek-Roman world.

It’s the chosen place of Arabian men and women who reproduce their hygienic, aesthetic, therapeutic but mainly social rituals.
In the hammam ritual, beauty and well-being, body care and relax of the mind, are experienced together.”

As Sherazade, the unforgettable protagonist of “A Thousand and One Nights” used to say: “A town is incomplete without its Turkish bath”.

The Hammam della Rosa is the first traditional Turkish bath in Milan and the first in Italy with a literary café.

As in the most ancient and traditional hammam from the Middle East and Magreb areas, men and women have the possibility to go to a Turkish bath and enjoy simultaneously but separately the daily Hammam ritual, thanks to the two adjacent buildings with separate entrances

When crossing the threshold you enter a new dimension, in a completely oriental environment. Berber sofas and carpets, Uzbek tapestries, zelij and wrought-iron small tables, all compose this magic oasis of relax and well-being where you can benefit from the traditional hammam in a sequence of passages from the coldest to the warmest room with different steam concentrations and room temperatures.

Our “Percorso della Rosa” is the Hammam, which is the traditional Turkish bath. Our purpose is to relax you completely. Just take off your watch and let yourself be pampered in a completely relaxed atmosphere: you’ll soon forget what stress is! This is why we ask you to dedicate at least two hours to yourself. Switch off your mobile phones and allow yourself to be led in the hammam experience: expert hands will spoil you and make you feel really well. Hammam is also an interesting place to socialize, where people come to meet other people and make new friends.

The hammam is a useful and pleasant practice both in winter and summer. In winter it helps to ward off colds, to free the respiratory tract and to relieve muscular pains. In the summer it lowers the body temperature thanks to its refreshing action. Moreover the peeling, whilst removing dead cells, refreshes your tan making it brighter and longer lasting.

Thanks to the gradual progression from cooler to warmer areas that allows the body to get used to the heat naturally and slowly, hammam is normally a practice with no particular negative effects. In case of specific physical problems it is advisable to previously consult a doctor and inform the hammam personnel on arrival of such particular physical situations.

At the hammam center you will find everything you need, from a white towel to sterilized slippers, from a peeling glove to a bathrobe and phytobiological products.

Before commencing your journey in the hammam a shower is required; then put on your white towel and slippers and start your relaxing journey in the tepidarium (westya), a large warm and slightly humid room with heated marble benches, mosaic fountains and jets of water. A brief rest in the tepidarium (westya) helps you to start relaxing and get acclimatized.

After applying black soap all over your body, move into the calidarium (beit el sakhin), a room full of steam with an average temperature of 45°C, which varies from 60° to 30° from top to bottom. Invigorating and at the same time relaxing, it exerts a beneficial action on the arterial pressure, gives more elasticity to the skin, in fact while perspiring, toxins are eliminated thus leaving the skin cleaner and luminous.

Your rest in the calidarium (beit el sakhin) must not exceed your resistance. You can stay in the room as long as you wish, now and then refreshing yourself or moving into the tepidarium (westya) for a while and then returning to the calidarium.

It is advisable not to eat immediately before the hammam, but have a light meal a couple of hours earlier and immediately restore the liquid lost during the hammam with drinks rich in mineral salts, sugar and fruit, which you can always find in the tepidarium (westya) and in the rest room.

Following the steam bath, there are hammam treatments: peeling for a deep exfoliation of the skin with the traditional silky rough glove kassa, followed by washing the whole body and hair with our phyto-biological products.

The frigidarium (beit el barid), a 28°-30° C lukewarm pool with an invigorating effect, is at your disposal after the skin cleansing treatments.

Possible waiting between the different treatments must not be considered a delay but represents an opportunity to relax and socialize, comfortably lounging on marble benches in the tepidarium (westya), sipping mint tea and enjoying refined top quality Arabian patisserie. In countries where the hammam originated, it is traditionally used for special occasions, meetings and for hen and stag parties.

Moisturizing massages with aromatic oils or creams conclude your treatments. In addition, on request: oriental hair-removal, ghasoul poultices or henna for hair treatment; face and body massage with “Aleppo soap” or long relaxing massages (50 minutes) with essential oils.

The last stop before getting dressed is again in the comfortable tepidarium (westya) to have last chats with friends or in the special rest hall for a deeper relaxation before going back to the city turmoil.

Within the usual oriental frame of the Hammam della Rosa, thanks to the opening of the new area for men, they too can discover the traditional benefits of hammam, amid scented vapours of amber and incense and the invigorating treatments of Arabian tradition.

As in the traditional hammam, the Hammam for Men begins in the tepidarium (westya), a large warm and slightly humid room with marble benches, mosaics and jets of water. After applying the black soap all over your body, you proceed into the caldarium (beit el sakhin), the steam saturated room. After the steam bath, there are hammam treatments: peeling, for a deep exfoliation massage of the skin with kassa, the typical rough glove; soap massage, a cleansing massage of the whole body with Aleppo soap, an ancient and natural soap with special softening skin properties. After that you move into the frigidarium (beit el barid), a 28°-30° C lukewarm pool with an invigorating effect and, on request, further hydrating and relaxing massages (50 minutes) with scented oils or creams. The hammam treatment is concluded in the rest room where you can relax endlessly with an Arabian refreshment.
